A quarter that thinks it’s the whole dollar.
The Quarterwit is worth twenty-five cents, which it will tell you about at length. The obverse carries a portrait, the words IN ME I TRUST, and a smile that has clearly been practised in a mirror.
The reverse shows an eagle admiring itself in a hand mirror, which the department considered the most accurate heraldry available. Around it: TWENTY-FIVE CENTS. ZERO SENSE.
As with the Jabroney, the name is this department’s proposal. Unlike the Jabroney, nobody has minted a real one. We are getting ahead of things.
What’s on it, exactly?
The obverse. QUARTERWIT around the top, 25¢ at the bottom, a portrait, and the motto IN ME I TRUST at the right.
The reverse. An eagle holding a hand mirror and looking into it, TWENTY-FIVE CENTS. above and ZERO SENSE. below. The edge is reeded, as a quarter’s is.
This is not a real coin. The Quarterwit is an original parody illustration made to look struck in silver. It is not U.S. Mint artwork, it is not a product, it is not currency, and nothing here is for sale. “Quarterwit” is this site’s naming proposal.
